What Is Iodine & Why Iodine Is Good For Health
Iodine is the simplest most powerful antioxidant you could possibly find! Iodine is one of the most abundant electron-rich essential elements we can consume either absorbed orally or transdermally.
With such broad use of medicinal applications, that only a hundred years ago it was used universally by most doctors.
From 1900 to the 1960s in the US alone, almost every single physician used Lugol (iodine) supplements in his or her practice for both hypo and hyperthyroid, as well as many, many other conditions all with excellent results.
Even without fully knowing what the full use of iodine was, iodine was considered a panacea for all human ills.
For many, many decades surgeons have scrubbed their hands clean with it. To help prevent infections in and around the operated area, nurses paint iodine on their patients because the tincture of iodine still remains the best antiseptic.
The Nobel laureate Dr. Albert Szent Györgi (1893 – 1986), the physician who discovered vitamin C, writes… “When I was a medical student, iodine in the form of KI (potassium iodide) was the universal medicine. Nobody knew what it did, but it did something and did something good.”
Latest research on iodine
In today’s world with all the research that has been done on iodine, we now know what iodine is capable of and how much it can help heal and maintain vitality.
Why it is not regularly dispensed and to that matter, why it has been removed from the local pharmacist shelves is beyond belief.
i remember in my late twenties trying to recover after a most serious bout of septicemia (blood poisoning).
How i created the poisoning of my blood is a long story, but the off-shoot of this life-threatening experience was knowledge.
i was intuitively attracted to iodine for what ever reason, and i regularly applied iodine solution to my wrists each night.
At this time it was common practice within the healing circles i traveled in to apply iodine solution to the wrists as an indicator of whether or not you had an iodine deficiency (though it’s now proven an inaccurate indicator).
Captivated by the results i felt from this however small iodine supplementation, i then sourced a 10% W/W of iodine from the chemist (when it was available) and added a cap or two of the iodine to my bath water which i then soaked in regularly.
Note: i put my black haired dog in the water after i finished and let him soak, boy did his coat shine!!!
It did wonders for his appearance so his body obviously liked it!
And it was after i started adding iodine into my bathing waters that i can quite emphatically state, that that was the beginning of my recovery from blood poisoning.
A timely appointment
It was around this time i was driving past a doctors surgery as i had for many years but this time the voice inside my head said stop!
Why?
i believe it was fate!
In an out-dated clinic in a little shopping centre, little did i know it then, but Dr Robert Muir’s knowledge and willingness to share this knowledge on how our body’s metabolise iodine would change my life.
i told him what I was doing with the iodine and he asked me whether i was further supplementing my mineral intake with selenium.
i was not (as i was not familiar with selenium in those early years of my life) but his council to do so sounded wise and felt right.
So from then i included selenium and within a matter of months my strength had dramatically returned, my eyes shone a glimmer of brightness and my regeneration had begun.
Thank you Dr Robert Muir!
With my health moving in a positive direction after many years of suffering, i looked at the major sources of foods with iodine concentrations in them.
It was from this research that my love (almost fanatical during my years of illness) for the ocean and having to live next to the ocean was explained.
Rich in nutrients
You see a major source of iodine is found in ocean water and the green vegetable of the ocean absorbs it… kelp.
The sea is rich in iodine, about 60 micrograms (μg) per litre. Brown algae (seaweeds) accumulate iodine to more than 30,000 times the concentration of this element in seawater.
Magnesium and iodine are released from ocean water into the atmosphere and the health benefits people feel after a swim or walk along the beach is due to the absorption of both magnesium and iodine from the gift of the oceans.
Disable the pathogens
With the strength of a furnace is iodine’s ability to destroy pathogens.
When you understand the potency of service iodine provides to you, you’ll do everything in your power to familiarise yourself with some.
When you include other pathogen destroyers like probiotics, bicarbonates, chlorophyll and hydrogen ions in your diet, then you’ll really feel the combined weight of vitality powering up your health.
But of all of them, iodine is by far the best antibiotic, antiviral and antiseptic of all time.
It can be used in many different ways depending on the situation.
It’s beauty is it can be taken orally, applied transdermally, vaporised in a nebuliser (for application into the lungs) and used in douches.
In today’s world there is obviously an over use of antibiotics to treat illnesses of the body.
With this over use, bacteria’s are now becoming resistant to antibiotics and the body’s immune system just cannot cope.
Broad-spectrum antibiotics are indiscriminating; meaning that in addition to bad bacteria, they also kill healthy bacteria which normally live in the intestines and the vagina.
Healthy colonies of good bacteria are an absolutely necessary part of the body’s requirements to display good health.
Death begins in the colon, so they say!
It’s interesting to note that the word biotic comes from the Greek word biotikos, from bios life.
Hence the word antibiotic can be literally translated into “anti-life”.
This “anti-life” aspect explains the requirement for probiotics after a course of antibiotics.
Again from the word biotikos, probiotics can be translated into pro-life. When the “good” bacteria are killed with antibiotics, then yeasts, which are part of the normal flora of the body, can begin to overgrow because the antibiotics have altered the body’s healthy terrain (internal ecological balance) allowing the yeast to hyper proliferate and cause many far-reaching, toxic symptoms.
Clinical Studies
A leading iodine specialist Dr. Brownstein, has over 20 years experience from a clinical perspective can clearly demonstrate the fact that iodine leaves human cells in better health and healthy gut flora intact after a course of iodine to treat a myriad of infections.
In a related clinical test facilitated by three esteemed doctors… Drs. Abraham, Flechas and again Brownstein on more than 4,000 patients, iodine was prescribed in daily doses ranging from 12.5 to 50 mg, and in those with diabetes, up to 100 mg a day.
Results have clearly shown that iodine does appear to reverse fibrocystic disease; diabetic patients required less insulin; hypothyroid patients, less thyroid medication; symptoms of fibromyalgia resolve, and patients suffering migraine headaches experience decreased regularity and in lots of cases, less pain.
Iodine is bacteria’s, molds, yeasts, protozoa, and many viruses worst enemy.
In fact of all the antiseptic preparations that are used for direct contact and ingestion by humans and animals, only iodine is capable of killing all classes of pathogens: gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses and protozoa.
Most bacteria are killed within 15 to 30 seconds of contact.
Though it kills 90 percent of bacteria on the skin within 90 seconds.
It makes you wonder what results you’d experience when you combined selenium and magnesium chloride to your iodine supplementation.
Do your research people and then ask the question why iodine is not being readily dispensed at your local chemist when if it wasn’t for iodine, the surgeons hand could do no healing.
It is the most prolifically used antibacterial and antiviral solution used in hospitals, but not dispensed!
Why is that?
